Our reaction to G-PISD School Board vote FOR Exxon/SABIC tax abatement.

Ladies and Gentlemen: We know there is great disappointment with the actions taken by the Commissioners and school board. The designation of the reinvestment zone by the Commissioners set it all in motion.

The school board’s diligence in, not only understanding the consequences of the 313, but researching the health risks associated with this complex, cannot be ignored. We cannot overlook their commitment to doing what is in the best interest of the school district.

Privately, each of the School Board members expressed their deep appreciation for PCU’s advocacy, stating that it fueled their efforts to challenge Exxon to commit to, among other things, the latest technology to reduce emissions. In addition, a last minute Memorandum of Understanding was agreed to between Exxon and the District.

The Memorandum of Understanding can be viewed at the bottom of this page.

Each of you has contributed in many ways to this effort and we should all thank each other for staying together and raising the awareness that had heretofore been silenced through secrecy.
We can’t quit now. We will know soon whether Exxon chooses this site. The next step will be applying for TCEQ permits. We will fight this “tooth and nail”. They cannot turn a shovel on construction until the permit is issued. Stay strong.
