Is It Not Time to Say “Enough Is Enough”?

Some of you have seen our post of a daytime photo of the flare at Cheniere. Many have seen it at night, from close and afar. There is no doubt many photos and videos have been taken as the bright flame flickers in the clouds. Its roar is that of a commercial jet heard above the constant hum of traffic on 181.

Flare from Cheniere.
Flare from Cheniere.

It is one flare from one Unit going online. There will be many more with Cheniere expansion and countless others from Exxon/SABIC and the Port’s 3,000 acre Industrial Megaplex near Ingleside and Aransas Pass, presumably to accommodate Project(s) Dynamo and Falcon.

For the next five to 7 years they will all come online. Imagine if Exxon uses its the ground flare during startup! And, those that went online early will begin flaring for other reasons. We will see fields of concrete, towers and flares grow before eyes.

Enough is enough. Cheniere has their permits for the expansion. All we can do is be vigilant over their operations. The Exxon/SABIC Air Permit is being challenged by PCU, Texas Campaign for the Environment, and Sierra Club members. While our lawyers pursue our interests against the permit, the Port’s plans for a seawater desalination facility for the sole purpose of providing industry with water is being challenged by the Port Aransas Conservancy, citizens of Port A, and friends in our coastal communities.

There are many challenges to what is taking place and they must be addressed head on at each phase of implementation of the Port’s and Industry’s vision for OUR future.

An Alliance is growing. Reckless growth will not be tolerated. Disregard for the health of our citizens will not be tolerated. Detrimental impacts on our delicate ecosystems will not be tolerated. Adverse economic impacts on tourism, fishing, and the recreational pursuits of all who live here and visit here is unacceptable.
Be strong, be vocal, come together, be supportive, and stay tuned for more on the alliance.
