Does the World Need More Plastics?

While the proposed EXXON/SABIC steam “cracker” complex will manufacture antifreeze, the primary reason for building this abomination is to produce plastics, polyethylene pellets and plastic microfibers for clothing. That is where the real corporate profits lie.

EXXON/SABIC admits openly that the United States is saturated with plastic products; there is no market in the United States. The only market available for these products is Asia and developing countries throughout the world. Not that they asked for it; EXXON/SABIC and receiving corporate entities will simply force the product upon them and dupe them into thinking that it is a good thing, while nations are already trying to figure out how to deal with the current glut of plastic waste on their lands and in their seas.

EXXON/SABIC will ship these plastic products through the Port of Corpus Christi to foreign nations, and by rail to the California coast, where they will cross the seas to be further processed into products that will saturate the rest of the world and its oceans.

Imagine that the small towns of Gregory and Portland, previously known for their renowned school system, will now be known as a plastics pollution hub impacting the world’s lands and oceans while its own air and water quality suffers, devastatingly affecting its own citizens, the fish, birds, and ecosystems, and the recreational and commercial tourism industry in the coastal bend. It is not a legacy of which we will be proud.

Stay strong and get involved.
